Indian tennis sensation, Sania Mirza, and her husband, Pakastani cricketer Shoaib Malik, were special guests at the inauguration ceremony of the new Tennis Academy opened last week in Ranchi, Jharkhand State, India.
The state-of-the-art Tennis Academy, set up by Jharkhand State Cricket Association, features TigerTurf NZ’s Volley tennis surface, a highly durable, non directional, surface that is rated category 5 (fast) by the International Tennis Federation.
TigerTurf’s India Agents, Vikram Chopra and Nasir Ali from Altius Sports (www.altiussports.com) were thrilled that Tennis Ace Sania was able to officiate at the opening of the Tennis Academy. She practiced on the court for almost an hour and played with Jharkhand’s Chief Minister Arjun Munda and Deputy Chief Minister Sudesh Mahto commenting that the tennis court was very well made. She praised the newly-constructed court and termed it world-class. She would be back to play tennis here.
It is hoped that the Academy, which will start with 50 budding talents, will produce good tennis players in the days to come. This sentiment was supported by Chief Minister Munda saying that “the tennis academy would provide a platform for upcoming sports persons in the region”.
TigerTurf NZ and Altius Sports & Leisure are very proud to have been involved with this project. For further information on TigerTurf Sports and Leisure Surfaces contact TigerTurf on 0800 804 134 or email info@tigerturf.co.nz or nasir.ali@altiussports.com
