Rugby 65 - Exeter Chiefs
01/02/2007National League One outfit Exeter Chiefs are the latest in a stream of professional clubs to install TigerTurf's revolutionary Rugby65 artificial surface. With a clear ambition to compete in English rugby's top flight, the Exeter Chiefs can now boast a state of the art £8.4 million stadium and facilities fit for this purpose. Top of the agenda at Exeter is player development by providing first class facilities as it will be home grown talent helping gain promotion to the Premiership. So they called in the experts….
TigerTurf teamed up with contracting partners Kestrel, - in a winning combination, resulting in a 6630sqm full size artificial rugby pitch built at the north end of the ground, overlooking the main pitch also installed by Kestrel.
The revolutionary Tigerturf Rugby 65 system utilises the Brock shock pad and rubber granulate infill for maximum absorption during impact. This unique system is approved by the RFU and IRB, achieving a critical fall height of over 2 meters in both wet and dry conditions.
TigerTurf's Rugby65 product is a sand and rubber dressed system with a low abrasive yarn type and extra backing strength. What makes the surface so impressive is that it's safe enough to absorb the impact of a second row landing awkwardly from a line out, or protect the front rows in a collapsed scrum. It also provides enough resistance for players to sprint, step and swerve just like on the best maintained natural surface.
Combined with the ability to play in any weather conditions including frost and with no specialist footwear required, the new system will be of immense benefit in player development. This new system is in the process of being rolled out throughout the country with professional clubs and rugby academies already placing orders. In the last month the RFU have announced 6 full sized pitches to be completed all specifying the TigerTurf System.
Pete Drewitt, Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby comments "The TigerTurf pitch has been outstanding and enables us to prepare on a fast track which mirrors our excellent first team pitch. We are able to organise and execute successfully the full range of rugby individual and team skills. The pitch is being well used by the whole club from minis through to colts and the senior squad."
And it seems The TigerTurf Rugby 65 is causing quite a stir at International level, as it was recently announced that the England 'A' team, The Saxons, will use Exeter Chiefs Sandy Park Stadium as their home ground. Saxons Head Coach Jim Mallinder comments, "We have been very impressed with the brand new ground at Exeter, The facilities are absolutely first class."
