Rugby 65 - London Irish RFC

02/04/2007
"The TigerTurf installation has proved to be a safe and popular addition to our training facilities at Sunbury," said Kieran McCarthy, Rugby Manager of London Irish.
When London Irish RFC wanted to create a new all-weather training facility for it's players, market-leaders TigerTurf, were able to offer the latest technology sports surfacing has to offer. Previously, players trained on a normal grass surface but it was decided that a softer, safer surface was required to reduce risk of injury during certain training sessions.

The revolutionary Rugby 65 system - already a success with professional clubs and rugby academies throughout the country, utilises the Brock shock pad and granular rubber infill for maximum absorption during impact. It is the only system in the market to be approved by the RFU and IRB that achieves a critical fall height of over two metres in both wet and dry conditions.

TigerTurf's Rugby 65 product is a sand and rubber dressed system with a low abrasive yarn type and extra backing strength. What makes the surface so impressive is that its safe enough to absorb the impact of a second row landing awkwardly from a lineout or protect the front rows in a collapsed scrum. It also provides enough resistance for players to sprint, step and swerve just like on the best maintained natural surface. Combined with the ability to play in any weather condition including frost and with no special footwear required, the new surface is proving to be of immense benefit in player development.

A total of 374 sq metres were installed by Championship Sports Surfacing Ltd in the Autumn of 2006 and London Irish is delighted with the performance characteristics of the new surface. "The TigerTurf installation has proved to be a safe and popular addition to our training facilities at Sunbury," said Kieran McCarthy, Rugby Manager of London Irish.
