New TigerTurf WETT surface at premier hockey club Cannock

23/10/2007

TigerTurf is extremely proud to announce the opening of its brand new WETT hockey surface at England’s premier hockey club, Cannock on Saturday 20th October. The pitch was put to immediate use when Cannock went head-to-head with arch rivals and current Premier League champions, Reading.

Cannock Hockey Club in Staffordshire has become the most successful National Premier League hockey club in the country, having won the title in four out of the last five years. The success built over the past 100 years is set to continue with the addition of the world class standard WETT surface. TigerTurf has recently become a proud sponsor of Cannock, showing a real commitment to the sport.

TigerTurf’s WETT (Water Efficient TigerTurf) surface is so called because it uses significantly less water than traditional water based products whilst still performing to FIH accredited standards. In addition to the environmental considerations, WETT has been specifically designed with the requirements of the hockey player in mind.

Assisting with the design was Great Britain and England hockey star Jennie Bimson, who joined TigerTurf as a hockey surface consultant. The tightly curled monofilament fibre, exclusive to TigerTurf, creates a surface on which players can practice close control over the ball and have complete command over the speed and direction of passes. The extra strength in the fibres ensures maximum surface recovery every time and the surface is offered with a 10-year guarantee.

David Lynford, President of Cannock Hockey Club, said
“We are delighted that we will now start to benefit from all of the advantages the TigerTurf WETT surface has to offer in terms of player performance and surface management. As England’s premier hockey club we need a premier surface on which to build our future, and TigerTurf have shown a real understanding and affinity for the game.”

Using the same principle as the WETT series, TigerTurf have developed the WETT dressed surface, a funding friendly option for schools, colleges and community sports clubs. The WETT dressed surface has recently been installed at Harlington Sports Ground at Imperial College in London.

TigerTurf is the UK’s largest manufacturer of synthetic turf for the sports and leisure industry, the WETT system comprising just one of the impressive range of products designed for the needs of different sports and leisure activities. As the only UK based turf manufacturer that is a member of the independent industry regulators ESTO (European Synthetic Turf Organisation), TigerTurf offers a consistent playing surface Europe wide.
