St George’s show home playground of the future

St George’s Primary School in inner city Birmingham was last week celebrating the arrival of the new TigerTurf:LIFE playground. The first of its kind to be installed in the UK, the concept provides children with the opportunity of Learning In Fun Environments through a new colourful surface in which children can play and learn in an interactive setting.

The playground has been installed to encourage better participation in PE sessions and increase activity during break times.  Already the Birmingham school has seen a dramatic increase in the uptake of PE and growth in their extra curricular sports clubs, with increased requests from other schools for home fixtures. The school has even had the emblem emblazed on their playground generating tremendous pride.

“The changes to the school have been a dramatic improvement. It has inspired us to make improvements elsewhere, especially given the children’s new enthusiasm for sport and play. Before there was nowhere open enough for the children to play, now there has been a marked improvement not only in fitness, but also in confidence and academic ability. The confidence built on the pitch has been transferred to the classroom.”
