TigerTurf a hit at Houghton
05/03/2007Leading synthetic sports surface manufacturer, TigerTurf have supplied their ER65R product for the construction of a joint purpose pitch at a specialist sports college in Tyne & Wear. Houghton Kepier Sports College has invested heavily to improve the sports facilities that are available for both the school and the wider community to access. The 'jewel in the crown' is the third generation TigerTurf sports surface.
The ER65R surface was developed primarily as a Rugby pitch but has since gained FA accreditation, making it an excellent football facility also. It is constructed from long non-abrasive fibres which are carefully infilled with recycled rubber to replicate natural soil and provide initial comfort. An underlay also provides firmness and impact absorption when a player falls under a tackle.
TigerTurf teamed up with contracting partners and principal contractors for the scheme, Hellens Sport in a project that has helped deliver leadership programmes for youngsters along with sports festivals and competitions for all age ranges, with a particular focus on increasing the participation and elite performance of girls and women in football and rugby.
Craig Langley, Houghton Kepier's director of sport is delighted with the new facility, which officially opened in September last year. "I would fully recommend this facility to any school or club that is in a position to raise the funding. It has had a genuine impact on what we are able to offer our school and community at Houghton Kepier Sports College. We have seen a massive increase in community engagement from local football and rugby clubs, the FA, the RFU, Sunderland Sports Federation and local schools."Hellens Sport are a leading independent sports pitch contractor based in the North of England.
