Local company in winning pitch!
02/06/2008A local company has been chosen to provide the latest in turf technology for the city’s brand new sports centre.
Hartlebury-based TigerTurf’s artificial grass - which has been specially designed for pitches, training areas and mini soccer centres – will be used for two floodlit five-a-side football pitches at Worcester’s new state-of-the-art sports centre in St Johns.
Due to open on Monday 4 August, the new sports facility will benefit from one of the world’s most advanced football surfaces.
Known as ‘Soccer Real’, the synthetic pitch has received the highest level of official approval in the soccer market since its launch by TigerTurf in 2007; the company is the only FIFA licensee manufacturer in the UK.
Wynne Rogers, Assistant Head of Community Services at Worcester City Council said : “With just over 2 months until the opening of the city’s newest sports centre, work is forging ahead! We chose TigerTurf’s Soccer Real product as it is a tried and tested leading football product which complies to the highest international standards. It’s therefore great news for local football teams throughout the county! Wherever possible we try and use local companies so it was an added bonus for us that TigerTurf is based in Worcestershire.”
Dylan Griffiths, Marketing Manager at TigerTurf (UK) Ltd said : “We are delighted to have been chosen to provide two Soccer Real synthetic pitches for the new sports centre in St Johns. The purpose of Soccer Real is to bring international standard football pitches not only to the professional tier but to recreational players nationwide.
“Artificial turf is no longer seen as an option only when natural turf is unable to grow or maintenance is too costly and time consuming; Soccer Real synthetic turf competes with natural turf on its own merits.”
This is the first of two Soccer Real pitches to be sited in the city; the second is due for completion in mid-October at King George V Playing Fields in the Brickfields area of the city.
