Boyle County Wins Second Straight 4A State Crown! TigerTurf Surface of Choice for Rebel Stadium
12/03/2010It took a spirited halftime speech by coach Larry French and some inspired running by Chris Cook in the second half, but Boyle County High School's football team won its second consecutive Class 4-A title Friday night.
The Rebels ran their winning streak to 30 games, rallying from a halftime deficit to beat Allen County 21-14 before 13,167 fans at Western Kentucky University.
“We had a little butt-chewing there at halftime,” French said. “ … We just told them they had to come out and block like we knew how to block.”
After giving up a touchdown on the final play of the first half, Boyle County had 158 yards on the ground in the second half and won the school's seventh state title.
Cook carried 28 times for 175 yards and one TD and intercepted a pass late to seal the victory.
“He ran like a man possessed,” French said.
With his team trailing 7-0, Cook carried five times for 40 yards on a 10-play, 64-yard drive to start the second half. The 200-pound senior capped the drive with a 19-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 7.
“Coach French said big players make big plays in big games,” said Cook, who was named MVP of the game. “I am just glad I was able to make some plays for my team.”Rest of the story...
