Edison High Announces Grand Opening of New TigerTurf™ Field System!
12/18/2007
Edison High School (Huntington Beach, CA) officially inaugurated its new state-of-the-art synthetic field system – 110,000 square feet of TigerTurf™ monofilament – today at 3:00 p.m.
Former Edison Principal Brian Garland, Superintendent Dr. Van Riley and Edison Girls Soccer President Jeff Burgin, along with hundreds of students, parents and community supporters, were on hand for the ribbon-cutting.
The ceremony, which was followed by a girls soccer game, was also attended by Edison Principal D'liese Melendrez, School Board President Michael Simons, Mayor Debbie Cook and Jill Hardy.
Installed earlier this fall by California Ultimate Turf (CUT) , the new field system replaced worn grass and has already been a hit with the school’s soccer, football and P.E. programs, according to Edison High Athletic Director Bruce Belcher. “We love the new field,” he said.
Edison Boys Soccer coach Charlie Breneman said the new TigerTurf system has already improved athlete training sessions. “We are able to run drills on the field that were impossible on the old field. It also allows us to play a better type of soccer with a strategy that is more skill oriented. Our players are improving daily.”
Similarly, Kerry “Mac” Crooks, Edison Girls Soccer Coach, said the new field is “top notch. Our field, with its individual blades, provides a realistic look and feel. Truly a dream to play on.”
Pat Stellhorn, Facilities Technician for Huntington Beach Union School District (of which Edison High is a part) said he would recommend TigerTurf in a heartbeat. “The field is beautiful and it’s already seen plenty of use as we’ve had lots of rain, making our other fields unusable.”
Stellhorn added that he was very pleased with CUT’s installation of the system. “They were very professional, they held to their timeline and didn’t stop until it was complete, even working through the weekend. The field’s quality is superior to anything I’ve seen.”
Edison High School is one of a growing number of schools throughout North America adopting TigerTurf surfaces. Among them is University of California-Riverside, where TigerTurf is used for the school’s Division I soccer program.
To support the growing soccer market in North America, TigerTurf partners with Challenger Sports, which provides a wide selection of soccer services and products to 2,000 soccer organizations in 49 states and Canada.
As a partner TigerTurf donates a portion of proceeds from its synthetic field systems sales to The Challenger Sports Foundation, helping disadvantaged children throughout the U.S. and Canada experience a British Soccer Camp.
Internationally, TigerTurf is the preferred provider of soccer surfaces at every level. The company is a FIFA Licensee and has FIFA 1- and 2-Star systems in place in three continents.
