Ewing Township, N.J’s The College of New Jersey is inaugurating its newest facility – Lions Stadium’s new advanced technology Trophy Turf™ – auspiciously this month.

Developed by global synthetic turf manufacturer TigerTurf, the product features superior yarns engineered with new Springback and Capsulate profiles for heightened performance, better recovery and longevity, said TigerTurf Director Charles Fleishman.

“Trophy Turf is engineered to the next level of human performance,” said Fleishman, noting that it was inspired by numerous leading football players and coaches such as Fred Akers, Hall of Fame and former University of Texas football coach. “We’ve engineered into high quality yarns new technologies that work together to retain integrity and deliver optimum performance for the life of the system.”

“TigerTurf’s R&D is second to none,” said Akers. “They were able to parlay the needs of high level athletes into reality. Trophy Turf responds better to the athlete experience, delivers a more realistic, stadium quality look and feel.”

Those attributes, said Fleishman, were in part due to counsel from world leading athletes and sport influencers, whom TigerTurf relied upon in developing the product. Several have already expressed their preference for the new system, he added.

So have officials at The College of New Jersey, where Trophy Turf has just made its debut, said Matt Golden, TCNJ’s Executive Director for Public Relations and Communications. “We believe the caliber of this turf – which we chose after thorough research and testing – reflects the quality standards we insist on at TCNJ,” said Golden.

“TigerTurf’s R&D, customer service and their status as a leader in the industry impressed us,” said Golden. “But we also had Trophy Turf tested extensively to ensure the safety of the product for our athletes and for the environment.”

The testing, performed by Certified Testing Laboratories, Inc. (Bordentown, N.J.), came as a result of recent lead findings in some old synthetic field systems in the northeast, including TCNJ’s old AstroTurf.

Golden said nothing potentially hazardous was found in the process. “The turf contains no lead or heavy metals, and is engineered to create a field system that we anticipate will deliver safe, outstanding performance for years to come.”

Golden added that he was pleased with Ohio-based Sports Construction Group's installation of the new system. “They have been extremely thorough and responsive to our needs,” he said, adding “TigerTurf and Sports Construction Group provided an excellent solution for our needs – the quality we’ll be able to count on for years as well as the material safety.”

SCG Vice President Jim Savoca agreed that the new Trophy Turf is an ideal match for TCNJ. “It’s a superb high performance system for their multi-sport needs, and the system certainly addresses any concerns they had about lead and heavy metals. We’re eager to see other customers adopt this technology.”

Potential customers will have an opportunity to see Trophy Turf first hand June 9-12 at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics convention in Dallas, where a special exhibit of the new turf will be featured. Several renowned football legends are expected to be on hand for the event.

Trophy Turf™ is available nationwide through TigerTurf’s network of Authorized Representatives.
