Campbell’s Bay Tennis Club Celebrates 60th Anniversary On New Surface
13/03/2008Campbell’s Bay tennis club will host their 60th Jubilee in complete style with traditional crisp white uniforms, suitable hats and old school wooden rackets. The February celebrations will include a day of tennis on the two newly installed TigerTurf Tournament 1000 surfaces positioned directly in front of the clubhouse.
Committee member John Braggins describes how the new surfaces are a testament to the club’s progressive attitudes.
“We pride ourselves on providing top quality playing areas for our players. With the upgrade of the new TigerTurf Tournament 1000 surfaces we can continue to increase player development especially with our large number of junior members.”
“By providing top level surfaces we hope to encourage enthusiasts to come along and play tennis on a more regular basis – we want the experience to be as good as possible for all our members.”
The courts will feature a green coloured Tournament 1000 surface which is a highly durable product designed to be more fast paced than other surfaces.
TigerTurf Technical Manager Don Crockett explains, “This is an ideal playing surface for club level tennis as it is a much denser product than standard systems. It has the advantage of being a longer wearing surface that is perfect for clubs such as Campbell’s Bay Tennis Club that continuously play a large number of interclub games.”
Campbell’s Tennis Club has a reputation for being one the most picturesque tennis clubs of the North Shore. The colour choice of the new turfs became a controversial issue among club members.
“The contemporary colour blue was suggested instead of the more traditional green surface that we currently have,” said Mr Braggins. “It became such a topic of debate that we put a voting sheet up in the clubhouse. Green came out on top but only by a very small margin.”
