Eight New TigerTurf Hockey Pitches and counting…
29/04/2011Jos McKenzie
The NZ Hockey fraternity now has eight new synthetic hockey fields around the country after TigerTurf successfully completed its biggest installation season in its 30 year history.
In the past four months TigerTurf has completed 8 new full size hockey pitches in New Zealand plus a further installation in India. In many regions these new pitches will enable much greater participation, a higher level of hockey being played as well as world class facilities for matches, training and skill development.
The first to be completed was North Harbour Hockey’s Sand Pitch which was finally upgraded after 22 years with TigerTurf’s WETT Dressed surface which utilises the latest WETT technology. With four international grade pitches now available, North Harbour Hockey was able to host both the men’s and women’s masters at the same time and is the preferred facility for over 65 clubs and schools.
Waikato Hockey confirmed its new WETT field just before Christmas 2010. TigerTurf completed the installation within a month and by the end of January the new pitch was ready for play. This was followed by Wellington Hockey’s replacement of its #1 Pitch at the National Stadium also with a new TigerTurf WETT surface, the upgrade meaning International Test matches will now be scheduled for this venue. And Stratford, in the Taranaki, installed the first water based turf in the region again with a new WETT pitch.
Nunweek Park in Christchurch survived the second Christchurch quake in February, TigerTurf completing the installation of a new WETT Dressed surface the week before the quake. The installation of the new field was bought forward 12 months after the destruction of two fields at Porritt Park left the region short of adequate facilities. The new pitch is fully functional and ready for 2011 competitions.
Auckland Hockey completed its full upgrade at Lloyd Elsmore Park with the completion of the TigerTurf #2 field. Auckland Hockey has a fantastic facility with two WETT turfs and a practice area.
Westurf in Greymouth boasts the first Hockey surface with a red outer. Andrea Forrest from Westurf comments “the red looks amazing. Heaps have commented on how much it stands out as they view it when driving past and we’ve yet to see it under lights but it looks vibrant and fresh (not to mention west coast colours!)”
Last, but by no means least, a new TigerTurf TT37 field was completed for Counties at the Rosa Birch Park in Pukekohe. The success of this pitch will enable the Counties Manukau Hockey Association to broaden their development programme to a new generation of Hockey players.
We at TigerTurf are proud to be part of the Hockey revolution in New Zealand. For further information on Hockey surfaces or any other sporting surfaces please contact TigerTurf on 0800 804 134, visit our website at www.tigerturf.co.nz or email info@tigerturf.co.nz.
