Hobsonville Bowls declares Greenweave surface a winner

04/10/2006

TigerTurf recently sponsored the TigerTurf 2000 tournament in Hobsonville, West Auckland, which was played on a newly installed TigerTurf Greenweave surface. Players at the tournament declared the new surface to be highly competitive, and a significant improvement on the original Astroturf laid 18 years ago.

The new Greenweave surface was installed over the two existing greens in time for the TigerTurf 2000 on the 2 / 3rd of September. Heading off competition from 36 other teams were tournament winners Mike Jackson, Gudi Wong and Warren Sequee, who unanimously agreed that the surface gave a very 'true line.'

According to Hobsonville Bowls President, Colin Gill, there were a number of reasons behind the shift to the new Greenweave surface.

"The Greenweave surface is soft to walk on and requires far less watering, rolling and chemicals to keep it in condition.  The old surface cost us about $15,000 a year to maintain, whereas this new surface should only cost around $400.

"Another advantage the new surface has is the fact that you can get out and play within half an hour of rain.  With around 100 joint members that means a whole lot more playing time for everyone.

"We'll be celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2007 and we're looking forward to celebrating the event with more tournaments like the TigerTurf 2000.  No doubt we'll have them queuing at the door to enter when word gets around about the new surface,” concludes Gill.
