Major upgrade for Northland Hockey
04/02/2008Rosvall ITM Hockey Centre has received a new high tech hockey field with the installation of a TigerTurf WETT surface due to be completed this month.
TigerTurf WETT is a revolutionary synthetic water-based technology that produces a playing surface that is smoother than dry surfaces. TigerTurf WETT is an environmental and economic solution relative to standard water-based hockey turfs that require large amounts of water.
TigerTurf Technical Manager Don Crockett explains, “We developed TigerTurf WETT after the Federation of International Hockey (F.I.H.), the governing body of world hockey, called for the development of a turf that can be used for internationals and eliminated the need for water,” said Crockett.
Chief Executive of the Northland Hockey Association, Grant McLeod explains the new surface, only the fourth of its kind in the world, is part of a major re-development for Rosvall ITM Hockey Centre.
“The new TigerTurf WETT surface has given us the opportunity to expand, while the old surface has been recycled to create both warm up pitch and a much anticipated pitch for our junior players,” said McLeod.
“We are regular hosts to the Hockey NZ National Tournament and this year we host both the New Zealand Maori and the Collier Trophy Tournaments. We still consider ourselves an average-sized association with only two TigerTurf surfaces, so the new development it a huge asset to the community. TigerTurf has helped put our facility among the best in New Zealand. We are very proud!”
