New Court for Pompallier Tennis Club

30/01/2008

Pompallier Tennis Club in St Marys Bay, Auckland has installed a new TigerTurf Elite court for its members, the fifth synthetic surface it has sourced from the New Zealand based manufacturer.

Pompallier Tennis Club is a well respected club throughout Auckland and is best known for its longstanding presence in the Caro Bowl Competitions.

Life Member of the Pompallier Tennis Club and former Auckland Hockey Champion Ray Keenan explains, “We are continuously hosting social and interclub matches and with a membership of nearly 300 tennis enthusiasts, for this reason it is important to provide high quality surfaces.”

Pompallier began its relationship with TigerTurf when the company opened its doors 27 years ago. Today, Pompallier offers members five all weather TigerTurf surfaces.  Keenan says he is impressed with the club’s TigerTurf surfaces, including the most recent installation.

“We have had outstanding results with all our TigerTurf surfaces, some of them lasting well over the predicted lifespan. The new TigerTurf Elite all weather surface installed late last year has greatly added value to our club.”

TigerTurf Project Manager Brook Townsend says the TigerTurf Elite surface offers top level playability.

“A higher standard of tennis is produced due to the compacted high stitch rate which allows less sand content, making it a faster and harder surface than other synthetic turfs.”

TigerTurf’s Elite surface has been approved as a Class 3 “fast” surface by the ITF [International Tennis Federation] which has strict criteria for surface quality. This illustrates that a club venue like Pompallier Tennis Club is capable of hosting both national and international tennis fixtures.
