New Omokoroa County Estate Bowls surface boosts participation
30/09/2006Players on Omokoroa Country Estate's bowling greens are singing the praises of their new TigerTurf Greenweave bowls surface and looking forward to hosting tournaments in the near future.
The retirement village, located north of Tauranga in Omokoroa, offers its residents the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities, including lawn bowls. With popularity in the game growing, there was a need to extend the bowling facilities laid over 11 years ago.
Village resident and keen bowler, Bob Nicholson, said both the expansion of the facility and the new TigerTurf surface will ensure more people in the village can get involved in the game and at the same time make it possible to host tournaments with other retirement villages.
"We have around 55 residents who like to bowl and we hold formal games on a Friday and Sunday afternoon. Over the winter, play is usually restricted by the weather, however with the new TigerTurf Greenweave surface we can play almost immediately after the rain has stopped.
"So far we've found the Greenweave to be very accurate, and being softer to walk on makes it a very comfortable surface to play on.
"A key factor of course is the minimal amount of maintenance required to keep the Greenweave rinks up to scratch.
"We've already invited residents from Ocean Shores to come and compete in a tournament in a couple of weeks, and even though we only have two rinks to play on, the quality of the TigerTurf surface will ensure we all have a good time,” concludes Nicholson.
