After eight years of planning, the new multisport facility at the Papatoetoe Recreation Grounds is almost completed.  The purpose of the multisport facility is to provide a range of recreational options to the community as well as opportunities and pathways to build the skills and confidence needed to produce future elite athletes.

When completed, the $12 million project will provide a range of community sports grounds and facilities including a water efficient hockey field, all-weather tennis courts, bowling green and synthetic cricket wickets along with soccer and rugby fields, lighting towers, changing rooms, indoor practice nets, lounge areas and landscaping.

The six new TigerTurf synthetic tennis courts aim to rejuvenate interest in Tennis and help local tennis players achieve both locally and nationally.

Cricket and Bowls have also had a major makeover with the completion of five TigerTurf Premier Cricket wickets along with upgraded practice nets and a new all-weather GreenWeave Bowling Green which allows play all year round and complements the two existing natural greens.

The new state-of-the art WETT Hockey Field will commence installation in April providing the community with an international Hockey grade facility.  TigerTurf WETT uses the latest in Hockey turf technology providing a field that is extremely hardwearing with grain free playing characteristics and the ability to use safely without watering.

Delivered by a partnership between the Papatoetoe Sports and Community Charitable Trust and Manukau City Council, the new complex is aimed at increasing participation in recreation and sport as well as promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
