The upcoming Davis Cup tennis tie, commencing on Friday [6th April] will mark the first time a Davis Cup tie has been played at a club venue in New Zealand and only the second time a Davis Cup match has been played on a synthetic grass surface.

The Asia/Oceania group two semifinal, where New Zealand will play the Philippines, will take place at the Parnell Lawn Tennis Club which features a TigerTurf Elite all weather playing surface.

TigerTurf Product Manager Stephen Holmes says the decision by New Zealand Tennis to have the match played on this surface is testimony to its high quality and playability.

"The selection of a club venue with this synthetic surface highlights the international standard of the TigerTurf Elite surface," he said. "It is a compact product with a high stitch rate which allows less sand content, making it harder and faster than other synthetic surfaces and allowing a higher standard of tennis to be played."

"TigerTurf's Elite surface has been approved as a Class 3 "fast" surface by the ITF [International Tennis Federation] which has strict criteria for surface quality. This illustrates that a club venue like Parnell Lawn Tennis Club is capable of hosting an international tennis fixture such as the Davis Cup".
