TigerTurf to support Remuera Rackets Centenary celebrations
15/12/2006TigerTurf International will support Remuera Rackets Club in celebrating their Centenary in 2007.
Remuera Rackets General Manager, Amanda Stevenson says the Club, which boasts distinctive blue-coloured TigerTurf Elite All Weather courts, is planning a week long centenary celebration from 16th February to 24th February 2007.
"With TigerTurf's help, we will be holding our traditional Remuera Classic Tennis and Squash tournaments for both junior and senior members, as well as a golf tournament. A mid-week ladies tennis tournament and luncheon is also being held and an Open Day with Australian Legend Ken Rosewall playing in an exhibition tennis match at the weekend. This will be a chance to catch up with past and present members and browse through the Centennial Archives. To cap it all off we are hosting a gala dinner at the ASB Tennis Centre," says Stevenson.
"It's good to have TigerTurf on board as a sponsor as they were responsible for re-laying six of our tennis courts earlier this year and members have been reaping the benefits of the innovative 'blue' playing surface ever since."
The blue coloured TigerTurf Elite All Weather surface is considered easy on the joints and is less affected by adverse weather conditions than other surfaces. In addition, studies by the US Open have shown that blue is the best colour contrast with a yellow ball for maximum visibility .
"Over the past 100 years Remuera Rackets has always taken an innovative approach to developing our member's facilities and the fact that the new TigerTurf blue courts are the first of their kind in New Zealand ensures we are carrying on with this tradition. We were aware that the US Open courts have now changed to blue and that the courts at the 2004 Olympics in Athens were also blue, so this supported our decision to make the change."
